ACCURATE COST INDEX

Today there is no standard for CI calculations. Operating cost for CI calculations are provided by applying traditional cost value calculations. The re-/calculation cycles of CIs range from manufacture based recommendations per aircraft type, per season, quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily to per individual flight. The leverage of accurate operating cost for fuel and cost of time is not proven.

The biggest error in calculating CI values undoubtedly comes from the miscalculation of operating cost. This is unlikely to be resolved until flight operations and financial departments of airlines cooperate.

Hypothesis

XLM Aero is confident that significant savings are generated with an optimal CI based on accurate operating cost not only pre-flight, but also by taking in-flight cost drivers changes into account by providing the latest real-time operating cost for delays and misconnections.

Proof of concept objective

Significant fuel and cost savings when an optima CI is calculated based on exact operating cost.

Expected results to be measured and verified: calculate an optimal cost index (CI) on a flight by flight basis with KEOPS CC and compare the results with the currently applied CI savings and values applied by an airline.

IRREG and cost impact prediction

Today airport collaborative decision making (A-CDM) is about airport individual departure management. Target off block times (TOBTs) are set by the handling party based on experience, not based on calculated, required or predicted turnaround times. A highly digitalized industry applies outdates times.

Innovation, requires the ability to collaborate and share ideas with other people, and to sit down and talk with customers and get their feedback and understand their needs.

Lease management

Maintenance cost are provided by traditional costing solutions as maintenance cost / FH. Exact calculation and cost predictions are not covered by today’s Maintenance Planning and ERP solutions. Lease contracts, lease return, lease and maintenance cost management are managed in different solutions.
